Schools Win Honors at Superintendent’s Banquet

The fifth annual Superintendent’s Banquet held on July 30 at The Factory in Franklin, was a time of celebration as schools were honored for their success.

Three schools earned the Superintendent’s Superior Award of Excellence in Academic Achievement including Clovercroft Elementary and Principal Dr. Laura LaChance for a fourth time, Page Middle School and Dr. Eric Lifsey, and Ravenwood High School and Dr. Pam Vaden for the fourth year in a row.

Three schools earned the Superintendent’s Superior Award of Excellence in Academic Growth including Clovercroft Elementary and Principal Dr. Laura LaChance for the third year in a row, Spring Station Middle and Principal Paula Pulliam, and Ravenwood High School and Dr. Pam Vaden for the second year in a row. The honorees will receive a $250 check for each award courtesy of LifeTouch.

A number of schools were recognized for achievements and gains in specific areas. Elementary schools honored include Bethesda Elementary for Most Math Gain, Edmondson Elementary for Highest Student Attendance Rate, Fairview Elementary for Most Science Gain, Grassland Elementary for Highest Teacher Attendance, and Longview Elementary for Most Reading Gain.

Middle schools recognized include Grassland for Most Math Gain and Highest Teacher Attendance for the third year in a row, Heritage Middle for Most Reading Gain and Most Science Gain, and Sunset Middle for Highest Student Attendance.

High schools celebrated include Brentwood for Highest Participation in Advanced Placement for the third year in a row, Most National Merit Finalists, Highest Graduation Rate in 2013-14, Highest Student Attendance and Most Recognition in Fine Arts (tied with Ravenwood); Page for Highest Teacher Attendance for the second year in a row; and Ravenwood for Most Recognition in the Fine Arts (tied with Brentwood).

Two schools, Sunset Elementary and Franklin High, were honored for closing the gap in the area of special education.

Three schools, Longview Elementary, Page Middle and Fairview High, were given a special $10,000 award to expand technology within their buildings.

The administrators were treated to a meal prepared by the district’s Food Service Department with support provided by Franklin and Summit high schools’ culinary arts students. In addition, Lisa Benton, strings teacher at Centennial School, played the violin/viola; Susan Houghton, strings teacher at Brentwood Middle and Grassland Middle played the cello; and Jerry O’Dwyer played the violin.
