History Bee Finalists
The following Williamson County students have qualified for the National History Bee’s Nationals Finals, which will be held June 6-8 in Atlanta:

In the Finals, participants will be separated into Middle and Elementary Divisions based on their age. The Middle School Champion of the 2014 National History Bee will receive a $5,000 scholarship prize! The Elementary Champion will receive a $1,000 scholarship prize. Other assorted prizes will also be awarded to top-finishing participants.

Summit High
The Summit Fishing Team hosted the Middle Tennessee High School tournament last weekend on Old Hickory Lake. Summit hosted the largest tournament so far this year with 16 boats, Dickson County, Creekwood, Smyrna and Summit High schools.  Summit’s teams (Noah Boyett/Brendan Roach & Hunter Deselle/Alex Long) caught several fish but none that were eligible to weigh in.  First place team of  Jonas and Danny Vaughn from Smyrna had 5 keepers for 10.4 pounds, second place was Tristan Mccormick and Cody Thornton from Dickson County, who had 4 keepers for 8.49 pounds and 3rd place was Shader Brown and Dylan Dunnigan from Dickson County, who had 3 keepers for 6.73 pounds.  Tristan Mccormick took Big Fish honors with a 3.78 largemouth.  All of the contestants walked away with some new fishing lures courtesy of donations.  Summit plans to fish another Southern Slam tournament this Saturday on Old Hickory and is preparing for the State Tournament on Chickamauga Lake.

Gold Medals in Latin
The following Latin students earned gold medals on the National Latin Exam:

ACE Competition Results
The ACE (Architecture, Construction, Engineering) team presented their project for a “Community Center in Nolensville” at the ACE banquet on Thursday evening, April 24. During the year, students worked with professionals from the community to learn about the fields of Architecture, Construction and Engineering and how the disciplines worked together. A special congratulations to Olivia Blair and Deaton Hildabrand for each winning an ACE scholarship.

Woodland Middle School

Mathletes
Woodland Mathletes competed in the final Math Competition of the Year.  The Middle Grade’s Math Contest was held at MTSU and close to 300 middle school students competed in this contest.  The Sixth Grade team brought home the first place trophy and a plaque.  Akush Dhar placed 6th, James Thomas placed 5th, Heeju Kim placed 4th and Stewart Moore placed 1st.  The 7th grade team worked hard and was represented by team members: Rohith Vadapali, Ishan Sathe, Zoe Rozine, and Rhea Zaverchand.  Rhea placed 4th overall in 7th grade. The 8th Grade Team placed 2nd overall and brought home a plaque.  Omar Awan placed 14th, Stacey Xiang placed 11th, Kaitlyn Mi placed 8th, and Kelly Gim placed 6th.The Mathletes also won the T-shirt design contest this year.  Stacey Xiang designed this year’s winning shirt and won a Domino’s Pizza Gift Card for the math team.Woodland Middle Mathletes

Band
100 Woodland Band students participated in the MTSBOA Solo and Ensemble at Oliver Middle School this weekend.  Out of the 100 that participated, 70 received the highest rating of SUPERIOR and 30 received the second highest rating of EXCELLENT!

Pet Adoption Event
Woodland PTO’s Outreach Program, along with the Beta Club, will be hosting the annual Pet Adoption Event/Bake Sale on Saturday, May 10th. Animals from the Williamson County Animal shelters will be available for adoption. The event will take place from 10a-1pm in the parking lot at Crockett Elementary. Donations of pet food and toys will also be accepted at the event.
