Scene Around Town: Nashville Fashion Week Opening Night

Nashville Fashion Week

Tuesday night was opening night of Nashville Fashion Week. The venue chosen for the East Meets West runway show was Studio 615 in East Nashville. Designers Brooke Atwood, Francesca Marotta, Michael Drummond and Daniella Kallmeyer brought their collections to the runway.

After the show we spoke to Brooke Atwood. It was evident from her dog print themed show that dogs were her inspiration. Her rescue dog, Hank even took a stroll down the runway.

“Hank is my rescue dog that I got over a year ago and he has changed my life” said Atwood.  “I felt like I had to include him in my collection in some way but my overall inspiration for my designs are typically music.”

This was Atwood’s second time to show at Nashville Fashion Week. You can certainly see the musical influence with her leather vest and her signature tee shirts.

Daniella Kallmeyer collection is very simple yet something that would work in every woman’s wardrobe.

“My inspiration for my designs is that every woman can easily take any piece from my collection and add it to their wardrobe.”

As a first timer at the Nashville Fashion Week, Kallmeyer was surprised by the fashion of the attendees.

“I thought I would see more cowboys boots and western wear. Everyone is very fashionable here.”

Designer Francesca Mariotta has shown her collection in London, Paris, New York and now Nashville. Capes and bright colors donned this collection.

“I had three inspirations for my collection: my childhood, Marvel heroines and Hollywood actresses that I’ve always wanted to dress. It’s really based on really strong women.”

Nashville Fashion Week continues through Saturday with events across the city ending with a Fashion Forward Gala featuring Nashville Mayor Megan Barry. See the complete schedule at the Nashville Fashion Week website.
