The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) wants you to know about a recent scam that was reported to the sheriff’s office involving a man posing as a WCSO Deputy. The scammer has tried to solicit and/or pressure victims into photographing themselves and sending explicit or inappropriate images by texting or using a social app.
He has also attempted to defraud victims by asking for money to dismiss non-existent criminal cases. This scammer uses fear tactics alleging that there is an active criminal investigation.
“We want to make everyone aware that this man is a scammer, not a Deputy and he is not affiliated in any way with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office in Franklin, TN,” the Sheriff’s Office writes in a press release.
“We want you to stay aware of these tactics that are being used to exploit victims. If you are contacted by callers posing as a Deputy or Detective from a law enforcement agency, they will not likely do so by cellphone apps or text messaging. If you are contacted by someone claiming to be a law enforcement officer and are not sure of who they are please contact the WCSO non-emergency number at 615-790-5550 or your local police.”
