Savory Spice Shop Franklin Recipe: Panhandle Fried Pickles

Savory Spice Shop

Southerns like fried food just as much they like football. A fun fact about fried pickles–they were popularized by Bernell “Fatman” Austin in 1963 at the Duchess Drive In located in Atkins, Arkansas.

Be sure to visit the Savory Spice Shop Franklin located on Main Street in downtown Franklin for the spices listed in the recipe. Follow Savory Spice Shop on Facebook for the latest updates and offerings.

1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
4 Tbsp. Panhandle Chicken Fried Steak Seasoning
2 eggs
1/2 cup vegetable oil
28 dill pickle chips

This recipe also works great with our Nashville Hot Fried Chicken Spices or Lake Barkley Fried Chicken Seasoning.

Combine flour, cornmeal and seasoning in one bowl and whisk eggs together in another. Heat oil in a skillet to 350 degrees. Dip pickle slices in egg and then in seasoned flour mixture. Shake off excess flour. Place coated pickle slices in the skillet and fry until browned on each side. Set on paper towels to drain. Serve hot.
