In the 80’s he founded a duo with Shelly West, daughter of country legend Dottie West, called Frizzell & West. The two had a song on Clint Eastwood’s Any Which Way You Can and they went on to win CMA Duo of the Year.

In 2011, Frizzell released a book, a tribute to the life and career of Lefty Frizzell. “I Love You A Thousand Ways: The Lefty Frizzell Story” features a forward by Merle Haggard and chronicles the turbulent life and career of one of America’s most influential voices. The book was named by CMT as one of the Best Music Books of the year.

Most recently in 2018, it was the debut of a new music festival to be held annually in Corsicana, Texas. The first Frizzell & Friends Music Festival, nicknamed LeftyFest featured both legendary and contemporary artists who support the tradition of country music.
