Keeping your teenager safe while they are driving can be particularly difficult especially with all the new technology. They like to text, and they like their music. While you can find some peace of mind with some of the newer vehicles that have added safety features that parents control, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety publishes their list of safest vehicles to make the teen car buying process easier.

Their recommendations takes into consideration the amount of horsepower available, how big and heavy the car is, whether it has electronic stability control (a feature that helps the driver maintain control on hazardous roads), and the highest safety ratings of either a 4 or 5-star rating from the National highway Traffic Safety Administration.

They also realize that families will only be able to afford certain things at certain times depending on their circumstance. Their list is therefore comprehensive with several makes and models divided by two different levels: under $20,000 and under $10,000. Their full list ranges from prices starting at $2,000 and above.
