Runners Jog-Off Thanksgiving with Turkey Trot

Holiday Header
Rolling into the parking lot of Cool Springs Mall, you would have thought that they may have moved up Black Friday even earlier this year.  However, these people were not waiting to walk through any mall, they were ready to run.

D1 and GraceWork Ministries partnered up to bring this Thanksgiving Day event to life at D1 in Cool Springs this morning at 8 a.m.  Runners lined up inside D1 to get ready and keep warm before the race started.  Barely a 20-degree morning, some people were already starting on their jog.

Studies show that the average American will consume about 4,500 calories in a Thanksgiving meal, and The Calorie Control Council says that 45-percent of those can come from fats.  But these 4,500 calories are not throughout the entire day.  No, these calories are solely based on one meal.  So if you have a couple of houses to visit during the day, you may be consuming even more!

These runners had a jump start on the day because Women’s Health Magazine states in a study done by the Medical College of Wisconsin and the VA Medical Center, the treadmill showed the highest caloric burn more than any other machine.  Plus, running is an all-around work-out that gets every part of your body in shape!

So if you are feeling a little bloated after all the Thanksgiving feasts and leftovers, maybe hit the road or the gym for a jog!  You’ll stress less and your body will thank you!
