Is Your Roof Ready For The Winter?

 By: Clark Shelton

Mark Black, Owner of Superior Roofing, started roofing while in college 13 years ago. Five years later, he started Superior Roofing and 8 years later, Mark has an office on Main Street in Downtown Franklin and a thriving business. We got a chance to ask Mark about what to look for on your roof and how to prepare for the upcoming cold months.

Follow Mark’s tips and you’ll be all set for the cold months ahead.

1. Get Your Roof Inspected

“First off, have your roof inspected by a professionally, licensed, preferably local roofer. Do your background work, check references and licenses.”

2. Check Flashings

“Check all your flashings , especially around the fireplaces. Check for wear and tear, and especially cracks. Re-caulking of flashing and replacing worn rubber boots before the cold weather hits will save you from many headaches down the road.”

3. Check Gutters

“Clean your gutters, cut any low lying limbs that may push against eaves or constantly scrape the roof in the fall and winter winds.”

Mark also suggests checking the Roof Check-Up guide for Homeowners put out by the NRCA (National Roofing Contractors Association of which they are a member).
