After a tumultuous Week 1 that saw another instant classic between Centennial and Franklin, 2 undefeateds rolling on, and re-alignment and re-classification, it’s time to see who drives a little closer to their dream of a championship:
Jack in the Box GOTW #1: #4 Westmoreland at #1 CPA : While #1 seed CPA was putting on a scoring clinic against a 4 win Harpeth team last week (54-0), Westmoreland faced a tougher Fairview opponent at home. Westmoreland beat the Yellowjackets 35-6 to advance to tonight’s game. This may be undefeated CPA’s toughest test to this point. The winner of this game goes on to face White House Heritage – Lipscomb Academy winner.
Jack in the Box GOTW #2: #5 McGavock at #1 Ravenwood : While Ravenwood was putting up 66 points on a 5-5 Station Camp team, things weren’t as easy in Nashville. McGavock squeaked by Overton 28-27 to advance to tonight’s game. Ravenwood has been tough all year and their 11-0 record proves it, we expect this game to be closer than last week’s but still a Raptor win. The winner of this game moves on to face the winner of Centennial-Hendersonville.
#6 Centennial at #2 Hendersonville : A deceiving #6 seed ,Centennial got revenge on their crosstown rivals Friday night beating Franklin 28-23 in the Battle of Franklin Part Deux. Meanwhile, Hendersonville was facing a familiar regional foe in Independence at home. While Independence put up a fight early on, the Commandos were too much for the Eagles. Centennial will be tough to beat, but this game will go down to the wire we think. The winner will face the winner of our GOTW between McGavock and Ravenwood.
#6 Spring Hill at #2 Pearl Cohn : What has been a surprise to many, expect for possibly the Raider Nation, has been Spring Hill’s run this year. Last week in the first round they went on the road and beat #3 seeded Lexington 35-14. This week it gets a bit tougher as they face 8-2 Pearl Cohn on the road. Winner of this game moves on against White House and Giles County.
#3 DCA at #1 BGA : Both teams with 2 losses and DCA coming off a 21-7 win over Harding Academy on the road. These teams are very familiar with each other, and we will see if the Bye week for BGA made them stronger, or if it made them a little rusty. BGA at home is a tough one to pick against, so we won’t , but expect a tight game.
#2 FRA at #1 ECS: FRA beats Rosemark Tipton 46-6 last week and now travels on the road to take on #1 Evangelical Christian. ECS got the bye last week and will be well rested. This is an FRA team who finished the season strong and has a chance to win on the road. The winner takes on the winner of Davidson Academy and Knox Webb.
Division II Class AA: Both Ensworth and Brentwood Academy had byes last week. Ensworth will open second round play at home against a Briarcrest team who squeaked by St. Benedict’s 23-20. Brentwood Academy will travel to MUS to take on the #2 seed who also had a bye. Winners of these 2 games face each other next week.
There’s been a lot of talk about re-Classification and re-alignment the last 24 hours . We were able to get a statement from Patrick Whitlock ,Athletic Director/ Boys Basketball Coach at Ravenwood:
“We are happy that the TSSAA kept their original plan intact. We don’t have any control over the assigned regions but we are excited to line up and play in the highest classification Tennessee has to offer. We will also do our best to keep our old rivalries intact since Brentwood and centennial aren’t in our classification anymore. ”
