Riley Delgado Blasts Walkoff Home Run; Chargers Stay Alive

The left fielder didn’t even move after Riley Delgado connected on a 3-1 pitch. The ball soared over the wall and the Chargers celebrated at home plate as they survive and advance in the NJCAA World Series.

After leading all game, the Chargers gave up a bases-loaded single to Louis Boyd off of the center field wall in the tenth inning. That gave the Apaches an 11-9 lead. Austin Atwell came off the bench in the bottom of the frame and lifted a clutch two-run homer into the stands in left center to tie the game back up at 11.

It was the games third tie of the game and forced an 11th inning.

This didn’t have the makings of a game destined for extras early. Columbia State jumped out to a 6-0 lead with a combination of singles, errors and fielders choices.

Cochise battled all the way back to tie the game at 7-7 in the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Tyler Fullerton hit a towering fly ball that left the park just right of the batters eye in center. His solo-shot gave CSCC the lead back at 8-7.

The Chargers would get another run in the bottom of the seventh on an error but the 9-7 lead wouldn’t be enough. The Apaches, down to their final two-outs doubled and singled to tie the game. They even got the go-ahead run at third but failed to bring him in.

The Chargers would have a chance to win it in the bottom of the ninth as Ronald Jebavy  led off with a single and was moved to third. With Jebavy on third and two out, Paul Wilson hit one into the ally in left that was run down and caught by the center fielder ending the threat.

They will play again tomorrow at 3:00.
