Release of Transportation Improvement Plan for 2013-2016

The 2013-2016 Tennessee Transportation Improvement Plan has been released by Governor Bill Haslam and TDOT Commissioner John Schroer. The three-year program features more than $1.5 million in infrastructure investments. Williamson County doesn’t have any major new projects in this expansion but will continue to see construction to improve interstate access.

Tennessee is one of only 5 states that don’t borrow money to fund transportation and this is the first three-year plan drawn up under the new federal transportation funding bill, MAP-21. “The shifts in federal funding and the changes to how projects qualify for funding has challenged our ability to deliver as many projects as we would like,” Schroer said. “However, this multimodal program is responsive to the needs of communities across the state and also dedicates important funding to maintaining our infrastructure through our resurfacing and bridge programs.”

In addition to ongoing projects, Williamson County will see Right-of-Way work at Nolensville Road south of Burkitt Road near SR-254 and utility construction on I-65 as part of the Nashville SmartWay ITS expansion. “A quality transportation system is critical to our goal of making Tennessee the No. 1 location in the Southeast for high quality jobs as well as the continued growth of the state’s economy,” said Governor Haslam.
