Important details about GAA Spring Softball this year are as follows:
Divisions and Leagues – GAA will offer the following leagues this season:
6U Coach Pitch / Tee Ball – In this league, players will get the opportunity to face 3-5 pitches from their coach and if unable to make contact, then hit off a tee.
8U Coach Pitch – Every batter will have the opportunity to swing at up to five pitches on offense. Players will play different positions on defense while building a foundation and enjoyment of the game.
10U Fast Pitch and Modified Fast Pitch – The only difference between these two leagues is the coaching motion of the pitcher. In the Fast Pitch league, a “windmill” motion by a more qualified pitcher is required. In the modified league, the “windmill” motion is not required – i.e. beginner pitchers. All other rules – stealing bases, leading off, etc are all the same. (If this is your first year in 10U, GAA highly recommends a season of Modified Fast Pitch as an interim step between Coach Pitch and Windmill Pitching.)
12U Fast Pitch and Modified Fast Pitch – Same as 10U
15U Fast Pitch – This league uses the same rules and regulations as middle school softball.
17U Slow Pitch – For those who just aren’t quite ready to give up softball, this league replaces competition with good times – the perfect, fun based rec league!!!
Age Cut Off – The age cut off for all Grassland Softball League is the age of the player on August 31, 2014. For example, if your daughter is now eleven years old because she has a December birthday, she is still eligible for the 10U league because she was still ten years old on August 31st of last year. While this may seem like an odd rule, the purpose of this rule is to not split up classmates (in most cases).
Nights of Play – The nights of play are as follows:
Monday – 12U (Modified and Fast Pitch) and 15U (DH’s)
Tuesday – 6U and 8U
Thursday – 10U (Modified and Fast Pitch) and 17U (DH’s)
Saturday – 6U, 8U, 10U (both) and 12U (both)
