Recap: SEC Tips-Off
-Kentucky @ Alabama: W 85-63
Recap: The Alabama women’s team fell 85-63 to the Wildcats last Thursday. The Crimson Tide is 8-24 overall in SEC openers. The last win for Bama came during the 2004-2005 season, when it took a 69-39 win over Kentucky at home. Four players scored in double figures for the Wildcats, and Kentucky jumped to an early lead in the first half. Alabama’s Shafontaye Meyers led the pack with 20 points for her fourth time this year.
-Arkansas vs. South Carolina: L 51-55
Recap: Arkansas took its first loss of the season last Thursday against the Gamecocks. The Lady Razorbacks were neck and neck with South Carolina 49-45 with only minutes remaining in the game. Keira Peak and Jessica Jackson dominated the court for Arkansas, with 14-points each.
-Florida vs. Mississippi State W 82-72
Recap: Florida blew Mississippi State out of the water on Thursday right off the tip. Cassie Peoples dominated the court with 23-points for the Gators, and Florida now has a 24-18 series advantage against the Bulldogs. This extends Florida’s eight-game winning streak against State and cut off the six-game winning streak for the Bulldogs.
-Vanderbilt vs. Georgia W 66-58
Recap: Out of all of the wins to put this team on the map, Thursday’s was the right one to snag. Vandy has now won nine of the past 12 meets against Georgia. The Bulldogs were up 49-45, and it was the Commodores Jasmine Lister who brought the ladies afloat. The contest gave Vandy a nine-game winning streak, before South Carolina on Saturday.
-Tennessee vs. LSU L 77-80
Recap: Thursday was full of upsets as the LSU Tigers stole a win from the Lady Vols in Knoxville to pose as Tennessee’s second loss of the season. This marks head coach Nikki Caldwell’s first win over her alma mater. LSU’s Danielle Ballard equaled her career-high with 25-points, and Lady Vol Isabelle Harrison tied her 26-point career-high. LSU took the lead with nine-minutes left in the game, 62-55. Tennessee had seven straight wins over the Tigers and still leads the series, 44-13.
-Ole Miss vs. Missouri L 76-85
Recap: There is certainly some talent here in women’s SEC basketball. The Tigers traveled down to The Grove to take on the Rebels Thursday and took an 85-76 win home. Mizzou took off at the beginning of the game to take a 34-30 lead at halftime. From then on, it was a solid check on a win for the Tigers.
