Franklin County’s Rebel Yell Too Loud for Summit

Friday night, Summit traveled to Winchester and fell on the road to Franklin County 21-10. Franklin County was able to top the Spartans without attempting a pass. The loss dropped the Spartans to 2-6, 1-3 in regional play.

Delayed Start Hampers Offenses Early

Before the teams could begin the game, lightning in Winchester delayed the Spartans and the Rebels by 30 minutes. When the game finally began, neither offense was able to get their legs under them, as the first quarter ended in a scoreless tie. Midway through the second quarter, Summit quarterback Michael Zakrzewski found Alex Woosley from 14 yards out to put the Spartans on the board, 7-0. Franklin County responded with a Jai Kinslow touchdown, but missed the point after attempt. At the break, Summit led 7-6.

After the half, the schools again struggled to get offensive footing. Summit would score the only points of the 3rd quarter coming on a 21-yard Quinn Slaugenhoupt field goal. Midway through the 4th quarter, Kinslow would run in his second touchdown for the Rebels with just over 5 minutes left in the game. Summit’s offense was unable to move the ball and, when the Rebels took back over, Kinslow would ice the game with less than a minute and a half left, setting the final score at 21-10.

Kinslow would lead all rushers with 15 carries for 136 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tai Carter led Summit on the ground with 16 rushes for 64 yards. Tyler Palmer ran 14 times for 59 yards. Zakrewski went 6 for 18 for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Next week, Summit goes on the road again to Lincoln County, who sits at 6-1, 3-1 in regional play.
