During the taping of the CMA Country Christmas event, country music artists were asked “What’s in a Fruitcake?”
So, what is a fruitcake? A cake that contains dried fruit and nuts. A small town in Georgia claims to be the fruitcake capital of the world as reported by NPR.
Two bakeries in Claxton, Georgia make 4 million pounds of fruitcake each year. Claxton Bakery explained to NPR their cake consists of candied cherries, lemon, orange peel and nuts (almonds, walnuts, and Georgia pecans) along with candied pineapple.
Fruitcakes can last up to six months at room temperature and a year if refrigerated. Learn more about Claxton Bakery on their website.
