According to a reader survey conducted by Travel + Leisure, Nashville is the #5 travel destination in the United States.

The new survey, called World’s Best Awards 2016, from Time Inc.’s Travel + Leisure reveals the top travel destinations and companies in the U.S. and around the globe, from cities and islands to cruise lines, airlines, hotels and more. Cities are rated on sights/landmarks, culture, food, friendliness, shopping, and value. Charleston, South Carolina was named  the Top City in the United States and is also the #1 city in the world this year.

Travel + Leisure states on their website,  “The best cities in the United States, it seems, are the ones where visitors feel most at home.”

The River Inn of Harbor Town in Memphis, Tennessee, is the No. 6 Top City Hotel in the Continental U.S. and No.93 in the Top 100 hotels in the world. The No. 1 hotel in the Continental U.S. is the Spectator Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina. The No. 1 hotel in the world is Nihiwatu in Sumba, Indonesia.

Virgin America is named the Best Domestic Airline for the ninth consecutive year. Singapore Airlines is named Best International Airline for the 21st time.
