Ravenwood Young Life Gets Messy at Sludgefest

The Young Life Sludgefest has been a tradition at Ravenwood High School since 2002. Since that time the event has been held in five different locations however the past few years The Community Church off Moores Lane and Wilson Pike has hosted the event. Thursday, September 10 brought an estimated 200 young people to join in a messy, but fun activity.

Sludgefest begins with members from each grade level being assigned something to bring; this year seniors were told to wear black and bring chocolate syrup, juniors wear red and bring ketchup, sophomores wear yellow and bring mustard and freshmen wear white and bring mayonnaise or whipped cream.

Team Leader of Young Life of Williamson County, Eve Sarrett gathered the students together for a time of scripture and prayer before the festivities got down and dirty. And dirty indeed the young people, and small group leaders got. For the freshmen, this was their first introduction to Sludgefest, however they didn’t hold back and joined right in.

As you can see in the photos the students had a wonderful, and yes, dirty time of fellowship. Breaking down grade barriers, and allowing teens to come together in a safe place where they can practice their faith through friendship.

Young Life holds the Ravenwood Club meetings on Monday’s at 7:27 p.m. at the Highland Park Clubhouse. For more information about Young Life, or if you would like to sign up to be a mentor, contact RHS Young Life.
