Coach Matt Daniels got his first win as Ravenwood coach, as the Raptors beat Siegel in a 45-42 shootout at Ravenwood on Friday night.

Ravenwood backup quarterback Brian Garcia came in early in the first quarter and was phenomenal, completing 17-of-24 throws for 324 yards and four touchdowns.

Running back Anthony Holmes scored three touchdowns and had 91 yards of total offense for Ravenwood (1-1).

Siegel’s Lelan Wilhoite was phenomenal in his own right, scoring four touchdowns for the Stars (1-1).

Ravenwood started to pull away in the second half when Holmes scored his third touchdown of the night to help the Raptors to a 31-21 lead with 4:39 left in the third quarter.

But Wilhoite added another scoring run, pulling Siegel to within three as the third quarter ended.

Then, Siegel’s Terrence Johnson blocked a kick and ran it back 20 yards for a touchdown, the point-after giving the Stars a 34-31 lead.

Ravenwood’s Garcia answered with a scoring throw to Holmes. Siegel countered with a Freddie Owens touchdown catch.

Garcia accounted for the game-winner when he threw a touchdown to Nick Stallcup, Ravenwood’s starter at quarterback, with 9:12 left.

The Raptors’ Miller Powell scored on the second offensive snap of the night, but Wilhoite answered with a first-quarter score of his own at 8:38.

Ravenwood then went to Garcia early in the first quarter. He countered with a scoring toss to Holmes with 7:07 left in the first.

After Siegel’s Owens scored on a 45-yard run, the Stars missed the extra point. Ravenwood kicker Sam French then booted a field goal with 10:22 left before half to put the Raptors up by four.

Wilhoite added another touchdown midway through the second quarter on a 19-yard run, putting Siegel up 21-17.

But the Raptors re-took the lead when Holmes scored on a short run.

Anthony McCarthy led the Raptor defense with 11 tackles.

Ravenwood hosts Franklin next week, while Siegel travels to Riverdale.
