Centennial (3-1, 1-0) won with double D’s on Friday night.

Get your mind out of the gutter! But say hi to Ravenwood (3-1) first.

Because that is where Tyrel Dodson and Senturian DuReaux, and a punishing ground game from Centennial, left the Raptors Friday night,

The Cougars won 30-13, rushing for 168 yards while holding Ravenwood to 33.

Cougars Impress

The junior wide-receiver-turned-quarterback DuReaux, starting for the injured Blake Lovell, threw his first touchdown pass for Centennial in style. He found Austin Waddell for an 87-yard score that set the Cougars going.

Dodson, the Texas A & M recruit, followed up with a 22-yard interception return for a touchdown, to put Centennial up 14-0 in the first quarter. Despite no longer playing in the same region, the Cougars got to avenge the loss in their meeting last year with Ravenwood in the Class 6A quarterfinals.

“We are a team that is working really hard to learn how to fight and execute,” Centennial coach Brian Rector said. We are working to get better each week and win each week.”

Ravenwood managed only two first half field goals by Crews Holt, and a usually high-powered offense ran into trouble. Literally.

“They have the top front seven of any defense in our area,” William Hester, Ravenwood head coach, said. “Obviously led by Dodson.”

Dodson did it on offense Friday, too, with a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs. The first gave Centennial a 21-6 halftime lead; the second came in the fourth. He finished with 70 yards on 12 carries. DeReaux added 29 on the ground and threw 3-10 for 127 yards, 1 TD and 1 interception.

The Raptors threw 5 interceptions. Andrew Raape, 12-22 for 141 yards and 4 interceptions, had thrown only one coming into Friday night.

Chris Rowland, however, provided a bright spot for Ravenwood. The senior receiver scored the Raptors’ only touchdown on a 53-yard punt return early in the fourth quarter. Despite their lack of success on offense,  Rowland’s return made it a one possession game, 21-13.

Centennial responded with a safety, its defense crushing Ravenwood’s hope for a comeback.

Rowland finished with 112 yards on 6 catches.

Next week Centennial hosts Region 7-5A foe Northeast (2-2, 0-1).

Ravenwood visits Region 3-6A rival Franklin (2-2, 0-1), which won on Friday.
