The defending Class 6A state champion Ravenwood Raptors kept their postseason winning streak going Friday with a big first-round win.

The Raptors (6-5), Region 3-6A’s fifth seed, travelled to Germantown to take on the Houston Mustangs (4-6). Region 4-6A’s fourth seed couldn’t keep up, and Ravenwood ran away with a 45-14 win.

Running back Carter Nelson led the way for the Raptors with four rushing touchdowns.

Ravenwood has outscored its last two opponents (Antioch and Houston) 86-26.

The win sends the Raptors to a second-round matchup against Region 3-6A top seed Mt. Juliet (9-2).

The Raptors and Golden Bears met once in the regular season. Ravenwood won a defensive struggle 12-7 on Sept. 3 to give Mt. Juliet one of its two losses. Since then, the Bears have one eight straight games.

In the game on Sept. 3, Mt. Juliet gave the ball away with three fumbles and both offenses were powerless against the other’s defense.

The winner of that game will move on to the quarterfinals, where the winner of Collierville and Cordova awaits.
