Randy Smith of Franklin Dog Starts Community Dog Walking Group

Franklin Dog is presenting the “Exploring Franklin Dog Walkers!”

Owner Randy Smith says, for him, it’s just about spending time with his dog.

“For me, just spending time with my dog is a real stress-buster, even if it means just having him at my feet while I’m working,” stated Smith, “but the benefits are multiplied if we’re actually outside doing something as simple as taking a walk together.”

The brand-new “Exploring Franklin Dog Walkers” will meet this Saturday, October 26th at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of Winstead Hill Park at 4023 Columbia Avenue. Dogs and owners will take a comfortably-paced walk on the park’s short-to-medium-length trails that weave through the spectacular scenery of Franklin.

Winstead Hill Park only extends ¾ of a mile, but on this short walk, you’ll find a sampling of stream areas, meadows, and preserved woodlands with resting points. Along the way, the loops on the trail allow the parks visitors to extend their walk.

Also, the unpaved portion of the parking lot leads to the restored lookout shelter used by Confederate Gen. John Bell Hood at the Civil War Battle of Franklin. The short walk takes visitors by monuments to the Confederate generals, who died at Franklin.

This park can be a quick break from a busy day, and a step towards discovering more of Franklin’s incredible history.

Franklin Dog provides Training Classes, Day Camps, Overnight Stays, and ,coming soon, Grooming and petcare! One unique attribute that they include with their service is one night of a free stay for your pup!

Smith tells us that his goal is to help owners fully enjoy their dogs and provide services unique to Franklin.

“I like to say that we do it (provide services) in a manner that’s distinctly Franklin. In our facility (at 300 Eddy Lane) we do that through our décor. But it also includes encouraging people to learn more about our community’s history outside our walls,” noted Smith, “Winstead Hill seems like a good place to start with that. It’s an interesting area that I feel gets overlooked.”

The shop is located at 300 Eddy Lane in Franklin and open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. To contact Franklin Dog for more information, call 615-224-3478 or visit franklindog.com and Like them on Facebook.

Smith has also established  a MeetUp group, for those who are interested in a little exercise and socialization while learning more about the incredible history of Franklin. “Just as dogs can enhance the lives of families and individuals, they can also connect us on an individual and community level. This is a way to use dogs to build bridges between members of our community with a common interest,” Smith said.
