Locally Made Silent Film Premieres at Franklin Theatre

Last night, the red carpet was rolled out for the Providence movie premiere, hosted by husband and wife Producer-Director, Fred and Sharon Wilharm.

Before the movie began, Sharon Wilharm introduced the movie to the audience. Providence is the couple’s second silent cinematic movie, a story of Wilharm called “a simple romance.” To be clear, there is never one word spoken throughout the entire movie. And while at first, it takes a few minutes to get accustomed to the silence as you expect at any moment a character will speak, you finally adjust.  There is however music throughout the entire movie. Yes, the music has spoken words but not for several moments into the movie. If you are familiar with the movie ‘Serendity’ you will see some similarities in this movie. The main characters, Rachel Cartwright and Mitchell Little, spend their entire life knowing each other and yet missing each other until much later in life. We don’t want to give the whole movie away.

Providence features-Juli Tapken (Surrender, The Reins Maker), Rich Swingle (Alone Yet Not Alone, Beyond the Mask), Stacey Bradshaw (Touched by Grace, Wanted), Josh Allen (Home Sweet Bus), Emily Knapp (The Good Book), Chase Anderson (Where Hope Grows, Croaker), Irene Santiago (High School Musical, Adrenaline) and Rob Wilds from Tennessee Crossroads.

Providence was awarded Best Story, Best Lyrical Music, and Best Director by the recent Faith Film Fest. We spoke to a few of the actors. Josh Wilson (TLC Home Sweet Bus Home) told us this was his first feature film and he was actually somewhat thankful there were no lines to memorize. We also spoke to Emily Knapp who played the younger Rachel in the movie. Knapp tell us this was her second movie (her debut movie was ‘The Good Book’).

Providence first viewing for an audience took place at The Franklin Theatre but AMC will be airing it in February. For more information and showing dates, follow Providence on Facebook.
