In October 2016, Fiesta Restaurant Group announced it would close ten of its 209 Pollo Tropical restaurants. At the end of April 2017, the company stated it was closing all Pollo Tropical locations in Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and Nashville, Tenn. Fiesta said it would continue to operate 19 Pollo Tropical restaurants outside its original market of Florida, including 13 units in Atlanta and six locations in south Texas according to Restaurant News.

“Thanks for visiting our restaurant. We really appreciate our loyal guests and it has been our pleasure serving you. Unfortunately, we’ve made the hard decision to close our Tennessee Pollo Tropical restaurants.

Hopefully, we’ll be back, in the meantime, please visit us on your next trip to Houston, San Antonio, Atlanta, or Florida. You can also keep up with us on Facebook or at www.pollotropical.com.”

Richard Stockinger, who was named Fiesta president and CEO in February 2017, said in a statement, “While the decision to close restaurants is never easy, we believe it is vital to focus the company’s resources and efforts on markets and locations that have proven successful for our brands.”

The closures of the Pollo Tropical locations as been noted as part of Fiesta’s “renewal plan” for the company. The plan also includes a relaunch of the Pollo Tropical brand in September.
