There’s an ebay auction underway right now as just before publishing the current bid was $10,000 for a 9 square inches of skin on an Olympian.
Two time Olympian,Nick Symmonds, is auctioning off ad space on his own skin. If you are the lucky winner of the bid,you can have your logo,website or maybe a #hashtage placed on Symmonds right shoulder as the left one has been spoken for already. His left shoulder is received for caffeinated gum company,Rum Gum.
And this is not the first time Symmonds has sold ad space on his body. Back in 2012,Hanson Dodge bought ad space for $11,000 where they chose to display their Twitter handle. Hanson Dodge Creative was very pleased with the results of our partnership. Co-founder Tim Dodge went on to say, “Winning Nick’s auction for arm space in the 2012 Olympics was a unique PR opportunity that more than paid off. It allowed Hanson Dodge Creative to partner with a world-class athlete to raise awareness for a cause we both believe in—athletes’ sponsorship rights—and generated national coverage that continues to benefit HDC in 2016.”
On the ebay listing,it explains that due to “antiquated rules, during all IAAF, USOC, and IOC governed competitions, I will be forced to tape over all forms of advertising on my body except the logos of my apparel and equipment manufacturers. Though these absurd rules certainly diminish an investment in an athlete, please know that I will put in extra effort to ensure that the winner of this auction realizes a fantastic return on investment.”
Symmonds openly admits on his listing that he has not been selected for the 2016 Olympian Team,he does say that he is currently a two time Olympian,currently the defending USA Champion at 800m. Symmonds also says,”I also am healthy and in fantastic shape; all of my workouts for this season can be viewed on my Sweat Mobile account (available as a free app for download on iOS and Android).”
The U.S. Olympic Track and Field team is scheduled to be selected July 1-10, 2016. Anyone willing to bid on this opportunity?
