Pets of the Week: Storm and Alvin

November is national Adopt-a-Senior-Pet month and Williamson County Animal Control and Adoption Center in Franklin, Tenn. is celebrating with reduced adoption fees. All dogs and cats 2 years old or older are $20 November 1-30. In addition, there are no fees for any senior (age 55+) that adopts a dog or cat in November. Approved adoption applications are required, and all adoptions include vaccinations and spay/neuter.

Shelter director Laura Chavarria says senior pets have many advantages over puppies and kittens. “Older pets have so much love to give,” says Chavarria. “They have already developed distinct personalities, and they are not going to get any bigger. Plus, they are usually fully housetrained, and more low-key.” Pairing a senior pet with a senior adopter makes perfect sense, says Chavarria. “Older people with pets live longer, happier lives. The companionship of an older dog or cat makes seniors more active and can even help prevent depression.”

The Williamson County Animal Control and Adoption Center currently has a large number of dogs and cats over 2 years old. The adoption area at Williamson County Animal Control and Adoption Center, 106 Claude Yates Dr. in Franklin is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Adoptable animals can be viewed at www. adoptwcac.org. And now the stars of the week…
Alvin
Alvin dogMeet  Alvin. a 6-year-old male lab mix. Alvin enjoys walking on leash and devours his far share of doggie treats. Don’t let that gray snout fool you . . . he has lots of life left in him. Alvin is choosey about his dog friends and would be best as the only dog in the house.

Storm

Look at those green eyes! Storm is an 11-year-old gray female that was surrendered to the shelter. She has a beautiful coat, and she likes to lay on our sun porch and have her head scratched.
