Perfect Weather for Franklin Art Scene

Don’t miss the celebration of the arts Friday, May 1 during the Franklin Art Scene–a free event that allows the public to appreciate Williamson County culture every first Friday of the month.

Coordinated by the Downtown Franklin Association, the art crawl boasts dozens of participating spots, with locations dispersed in and around downtown—including the Second South District and Bridge Street, as well as up and down Columbia Avenue.

Friday’s locations are slated to offer a sweeping variety of magnificent work ranges, including:

O’More College of Design on South Margin Street is hosting Jimmy Moore’s photography and album cover exhibit. Take a visual and anecdotal stroll through the golden age of Music City! Bonuses: craft beer, wine, food, piano playing, laughter and Ringo Starr.

I Love Juice Bar on Fifth Avenue North is featuring the art of Denise Michelle, who is interested in creating paintings that capture the energy and color of the structures that house communities.

The Franklin Visitor’s Center on W. Main Street is hosting artist Jackie Perry, who works with colored pencil and acrylic, and occasionally pastel, creating portraits, landscapes, florals, animals and birds.

Hope Church at 137 4th Avenue will highlight the work of Marjorie Mullen, a conceptual painter.

Jack Yacoubian Jewelers will display works by Randy Purcell, a creative artist who uses a unique method of transferring ink from recycled magazine pages onto a thin layer of beeswax.

T. Nesbitt & Co. will feature Michael Poindexter, who will display landscapes of Williamson and Davidson counties, local historic properties and figures in oil.

Boutique MMM is hosting Jay Holobach, who enjoys painting from his own photography in acrylics and oils.

Landmark Community Bank, over at 198 E. Main Street, is showcasing the works of Wendy Fiedor– a talented local painter and photographer, who donated a portion of her net sales to Samaritan’s Purse in 2014, specifically to provide relief to Christians who are being persecuted by ISIS in the Middle East. Swing by the bank to see her beautiful abstract, landscape and portrait work.

Historic Franklin Presbyterian Church‘s ‬artist this Friday is Duskflyer Vision Photography & Art, which features Tommie Baskin’s photography and painting.

Savory Spice Shop on Main Street will feature the handcrafted accessories and leatherwork of Jeni Designs.

Shuff’s Music artist will be Wanda Wright, whose goal in her pastoral, simplistic paintings is to engage the heart as well as the eye and to help the viewer feel tranquillity.

Bagbey House will be celebrating six years in downtown Franklin!

Pedego at 104 East Main Street is hosting local artist Michael Edwards, a photographer with a beautiful eye for landscape.

Many of the galleries and working studios serve complimentary refreshments during the evening, and some offer live music. Free trolley rides, provided by Williamson Source, circulate among all the stops, and patrons can jump on and off at will from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

In 2011, a core group of local artistic influencers gathered to discuss the launch of an art crawl in downtown Franklin. Since then, hundreds of artists have been featured, and organizers say that they believe thousands of patrons turn out for the event each month–indicating steady growth for the Art Scene.
