Christmas lights can be garish, boring, amplified, or they can point to the Holy. We decorate with additional lights at this time of the year because Christ Jesus is the light of the world. Believers understand that these lights should remind us of the one whose life and teachings are the only hope for a darkened world.
A favorite three minutes of the entire year for me is when the congregants at Brentwood United Methodist Church hold up the lighted candles on Christmas Eve. As we lift the lighted candles we know in our hearts that the light of Christ has the power to push back the darkness. Nothing more, Nothing less.
Why we do not take time to wonder at the awe and meaning of the whole thing is…..
