Mizell Throws 4 TDs in Page Win vs Fayetteville

Williamson County FootballBy: Zachary Harmuth

Zak Mizell and the rest of the Page offense Thursday night, compared to Fayetteville, looked like a DVR stuck in fast forward.

Mizell, who came in averaging 270 passing yards per game, already threw three touchdown passes by the time Fayetteville mustered a response with a score of its own.

20 minutes of the first half passed before Fayetteville’s Darren Patterson caught a Treveonte Emmons throw for a 78 yard touchdown.

30 seconds then passed before Mizell said the football equivalent of “anything you can do I can do better” with a 15 yard strike to Mat Fornero and a 28-6 lead that turned into a 41-6 final score.

Page (3-4, 1-3 12-AA) played uncharacteristically well on defense,  allowing Fayetteville just 125 total yards, getting stops on third downs and not giving up big plays for scores.

Before this game the Patriots defense allowed on average 38.5 points per game.

For good measure, and because apparently for Page this game was about being exceptional at everything it has been below average at  this season, they rushed for their next score, a 40 yard Michael Roberts jaunt that ended any chance for Fayetteville to come back.

36-6 showed on the scoreboard, with almost an entire second half left to play.

Fayetteville did nothing, or maybe the Patriots just would not let them do anything, for the rest of the game and now Page is 3-1 out of its district and 0-3 in it. Granted, number one ranked CPA is on the list of teams in that district, along with 41st in Tenn. Giles County and 6-1 Cascade.

The win, if nothing else, should give Page the knowledge (and the confidence that comes with it) that they have a shot against any team they come across  if they just play good enough defense to give their high octane offense a chance.

They get tested next week against Cascade, which had a bye this week and so more time to prepare for Page specifically.

Before he found Fornero, Mizell hooked up with three different receivers for scores: Mason Smith, Trevor Johnson, Corey Bonn. The Patriots, if they have anything ,have offensive weapons they are not afraid to use. The problem this year on defense has not been a lack of weapons but a lack of knowing how to use them.

Perhaps they are learning.
