In one of our Games of the Week, the Page Patriots open their season on Friday, Aug 21, at home hosting Fairview at 7 p.m.

Page has not beat the Yellowjackets since 2012, but last October they came close, losing by just four points.

Last year Page finished 6-5, 2-3 in District 12 Class 4A, and lost 28-21 to Hixson in First Round of Class 4A Playoffs.

This year, Coach Charles Rathbone, who took Page to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons, has his work cut out for him, with a lot of player turnover and playing in a tough new district that has four teams in it that went to the playoffs last year.

“For us this first game is about seeing what we have got,” said Rathbone. “We have a chance to be a good team, but we need to see how the team reacts under pressure to get an idea of what we are looking at.”

“In years past, the first game is more to get off to a good start, but this year it is seeing where we are.”

Page brings back a few key starters, but also has to fill out a number of important spots. According to Greg Maupin at PrepWeekly.com:

The Patriots return senior quarterback Michael Magochy (6’4”, 210). Magochy was 168 of 277 for 2,043 yards in the air with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Also back is senior Michael Roberts (5’11”, 205), the team’s top rusher. Roberts rushed the ball 107 times for 773 yards and 10 touchdowns. In addition to rushing the football, Roberts is an option to catch the ball out of the backfield. Roberts had 17 receptions for 276 yards. Robert’s efforts earned him all-district honors as both a sophomore and a junior. Senior Dillon Myers (5’9”, 180) will also see time in the backfield. Myers is an option at both wide receiver and kick returner, where he earned all-district honors. Myers finished with six touchdowns and 816 all-purpose yards.Offensive coordinator Jack Daniels will have to fill some holes, as Page will have to replace the entire offensive line and three wide receiver positions. One of the returning wide receivers is Tanner Brown (6’3”, 180). Brown only had 38 yards, but coaches say he had a great offseason.

Defensive coordinator Derek Pack will also have three holes to fill for the Patriots. Senior Nick Cramer (5’10”, 285) along with juniors Josh Cramer (5’8”, 155) and Rafe Erisman will anchor the Page defense. On the lines, junior Chris Dahl (6’0”, 245) and senior Noah Farner (5’11”, 255) return as the top lineman with senior Chandler Covington (5’10”, 210) expected to receive a lot of playing time.” –PrepWeekly.com.
