Page High School Student Competes on The Voice

UPDATE 10.22.13
Last night, Juhi performed on NBC’s The Voice in The Battle Rounds against fellow singer George.

In the battle grounds, each coach picks two singers to battle it out on stage and then must chose only one singer to move forward in the competition. However, there is  catch. The other coaches can steal the singer who is not chosen.

Coach CeeLo Green picked “The Best I’ve Ever Had” by Gavin DeGraw for Juhi and George to sing. Special celebrity adviser Miguel helped the two make the song their own. Miguel likened George’s style to Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars and said Juhi has “a lot of character infused in her vocal style.” He advised her to make sure she paid attention to annunciation, because her unique style could make it hard for listeners to understand the words she was singing.

Their performance was fun, entertaining and even soulful. Christina Aguilera commended Juhi on her “cool inflections” and Blake Shelton said she really stood out.

In the end, CeeLo decided George won the singing battle. Fortunately for Juhi, the coaches had an opportunity to keep her and Adam Levine took full advantage of this and adamantly pushed his button to keep her on the show. After saving Juhi from elimination, he said “I kinda won the lottery.”

Original Story 10.03.13
Talent oozes out of Williamson County. Page High School senior, Juhi, performed on NBC’s reality singing competition The Voice earlier this week. Juhi showed off her personal style, which is a quirky grunge look–blue tipped hair, babydoll dress and leather jacket. With a GPA above 4.0 (how does that happen), Juhi has aspirations of majoring in  aerospace engineering or computer science. Her musical influences are Amy Winehouse and Nirvana. In her audition, she sang “Mercy” by Duffy.

If you’ve never watched The Voice before, here’s a brief explanation of how auditions work. Contestants perform a “blind audition,” in which the judges have their backs to the performers. The idea is that the judges will be able to base their decision on an individuals singing ability and not looks. If the judges like what they hear, they push their buzzer, turning their chair around so they can finally see the contestant. If multiple judges turn their chair around, the contestant gets to choose which judge to work with for the remainder of their time on the show.

The minute Juhi hit some difficult runs in her performance, CeeLo Green  and Christina  Aguilera turned their chairs around. “I’m flipping out right now,” Juhi said at the prospect of being accepted on the show and getting to chose between CeeLo and Christiana.   In the end, Juhi picked CeeLo.   Green described Juhi as “someone who I would’ve made friends with in school”.
