Students in Page High’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter are starting the school year off with a strong showing at the Tennessee State Fair.
Hunter Davenport and Mitchell Lambert were named second runner ups the Tennessee FFA Grill Master Beef Barbecue Competition. The competition allows students to make creative dishes while learning about proper food preparation and safety.
“Hunter and Mitchell represented Page and Williamson County well in preparing, grilling and presenting their steak to a panel of judges,” said Page High Agriscience teacher Shana Boteler.
At a different event, four more PHS students earned recognition. Angela Cook, Mattie Hart, Elliette Baker and Kaitlynn Wallace earned fifth place in the Career Development Event (CDE) Horse Judging at Middle Tennessee State University. The event tests student knowledge about equine science by requiring them to evaluate and rank horses based on certain characteristics.
Angela placed in the top 20 individual scorers. More than 200 students competed in the event.
“These ladies had to judge four performance classes, two halter classes and present a set of oral reasons to a panel of judges,” Boteler said.
