Columbia State Community College

Columbia State Community College, Williamson County Schools and Centennial High School will host an open house to provide a tour and in-depth look at plans for the Williamson’s Information Technology (WIT) Center, including upcoming educational opportunities through the Tennessee Department of Education’s approved information technology curriculum pathway and college credit courses offered through Columbia State. In addition, upcoming plans include summer camps and IT competitions.

WITThe open house will take place Friday, April 10th at 3:30pm.

The number of IT jobs in Middle Tennessee continues to grow, yet there remains a deficit in the number of qualified applicants. Through this collaborative effort, the WIT Center was developed to promote interest and training in the IT professions among the young people of Williamson County.

The state-of-the-art center opened in fall 2014 and has provided high school students the opportunity to take courses such as computer applications, mobile app design and robotics through Columbia State’s dual enrollment program.

Dr. Janet F. Smith, Columbia State president; Dearl Lampley, dean of the science, technology and mathematics division at Columbia State; and Dr. Leigh Webb, Centennial High School principal will explain in greater detail the progress of the WIT Center’s pilot year and upcoming opportunities for Williamson County students.
