Open House for Spring Hill Historic Commission

Meet the members and friends of the Spring Hill Historic Commission at the annual open house event held this year at the Oaklawn Plantation.

All are welcome to attend this event, which will focus on events surrounding the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Spring Hill and the Battle of Franklin. Rippavilla Executive Director Pam Perdue will share what to expect at Rippavilla’s 150th anniversary event on Nov. 28-30, and Eric Jacobson, CEO and Historian for the Battle of Franklin Trust, will discuss the 150th anniversary and reenactment of the Battle of Franklin that will occur Nov. 15-16 in Franklin.

The open house will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at Oaklawn Plantation, 3331 Denning Lane, in south Spring Hill.

Each year the Historic Commission hosts an open house event to give guests the opportunity to learn about the mission of the Historic Commission and enjoy entertainment and refreshments at one of Spring Hill’s 11 historic properties.

“You can’t fully comprehend the gravity of the situation that the Confederate Army of Tennessee and General John Bell Hood found themselves in here in Spring Hill on the morning of November 30th, 1864,” said Alderman Jonathan Duda, chairman of the Historic Commission.

Guests also will be treated to a special highlight performance of select scenes from Scathe, an outdoor performance drama authored and composed by Historic Commissioner Dr. Deanne Collins, and based on a Civil War Incident in Middle Tennessee.

Please RSVP to City Communications Officer Jamie Page, [email protected] or call 931-486-2252, ext. 222.
