One Gen Away Provides Hunger Relief

One Gen Away

Chris Whitney, founder of One Gen Away in Franklin, has one simple mission – to feed those that are hungry with no questions asked.

The nonprofit that started back in 2013 has grown to the point where they have seven trucks and they delivered 1.5 million pounds of food to those in need in 2018.

In addition, they have partnered with local restaurants where they “rescue” food that would have been thrown out. Two recent local partners are Ruby Sunshine and Olive Garden in Cool Springs.

Each weekend, you will find One Gen Away with their mobile food pantry where they provide 25,000 pounds of food to the community. No registration or proof of need is required. Whitney shares that folks will line up hours before the mobile pantry is open and often times he will find recipients who have spent the night waiting to receive food.
