A multi-car crash on Interstate 65 Southbound near Spring Hill this afternoon caused at least one death, and two more victims were lifelined in unknown condition, as the highway totally closed southbound and reduced to one lane northbound.
Yet more victims may still be trapped in the possibly four-car crash scene, but information is still unofficial, Lt. Justin Whitwell, Public Information Officer for the Spring Hill Police Department, said shortly after 5 p.m.
At 4 p.m., Spring Hill Police announced that all southbound lanes on I-65 were closed, due to a semi-truck on fire and a multiple-car wreck. A short time later, two emergency medical helicopters landed on the highway near the scene to transport two people with as yet unknown injuries to the hospital.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol, the lead agency on the scene, confirmed that there was a fatality.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation estimates that the scene will not be clear until 10 p.m.
