Officer Involved Shooting in Columbia

Update 6-12-15: TBI Public Information Officer Susan Niland said that “We are able today to confirm the deceased individual as Raymond K. Phillips, d.o.b. 3-5-30.”

On June 11, 2015 around 1:00 p.m., officers were called to investigate an eighty-six year old Columbia man that had left his home in his vehicle, armed with weapons and threatening suicide.

Officers made contact with him on Bear Creek Pike between Cranford Hollow and Rock Springs Road. During the contact the man exited his vehicle while pointing a gun at officers. Officers defended themselves by gunfire, which ultimately resulted in the individual’s death.

No officers were injured during the incident.

Under standard procedure, officers involved have been placed on administrative leave with pay while the investigation is ongoing. This investigation is being conducted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and any further inquiries should be directed to their office.
