Odysseo’s 65 Horses are Vacationing at a Franklin Farm

Sixty-five majestic horses, stars of the $30 million theatrical production Odysseo by Cavalia are enjoying a relaxing 10-day stay at a local farm in Franklin. We stopped by the farm where we heard from Marc-Olivier Leprohon, Cavalia’s Artistic & Equestrian Operations Director, about the horses’ transport logistic and vacations.

Each day, every horse is bathed and groomed with time in spacious paddocks spending time in the sun as they adjust to the southern climate. After sold-out shows in Ontario, the horses are given a vacation to rest. When scouting the area, the Odysseo team decided that a Franklin farm was the perfect spot to accommodate the horses. Odysseo

The Odysseo herd is comprised of 12 different breeds – including Appaloosa, Arabian, Canadian Horse, Holsteiner, Lusitano, Paint Horse, Percheron Hanoverian Cross, Quarter Horse, Selle Français, Thoroughbred, Spanish Purebred (P.R.E.) and Warlander  and will soon take up residence in their new home in Nashville, at a spacious stable tent erected next to the show’s signature White Big Top near Opryland.

Odysseo is a show unlike any other, an immersive theatrical experience in which horses are the stars. These magnificent animals play in complicity and with freedom, in a respectful relationship with the riders, acrobats, and aerialists, charming and fascinating everyone who has the chance to witness this moving artistic and emotive partnership. A liberty number, in which purebred Arabian horses are directed only by the soft murmurs of their trainer, and a caravan act that comprises people and horses too numerous to count, are amongst the many breathtaking scenes that will leave every spectator captivated and touched by the splendor created in front of their eyes.

Imagined by Normand Latourelle – one of the co-founders of Cirque du Soleil and renowned for combining different forms of artistic expression and reinventing the scenic space – Odysseo is a true revolution in live entertainment with an impressive list of superlatives: the world’s largest touring production, the biggest touring tent on Earth, the biggest stage, the most breathtaking visual effects, and the greatest number of horses at liberty.
