OBITUARY: Tom Cummings

Tom Cummings

Thomas Robertson Cummings passed away on December 11, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Margaret “Putt” Cummings, son, Thomas (Dottie) Cummings, Jr.; daughter, Cathy (David) Schaefer; grandchildren, Chris (Joanna) Cummings, Steve Cummings and Cody Walker and sister-in-law, Mary Frances Cummings.

A native Nashvillian, Tom graduated from George Peabody College and proudly served his country by enlisting in the Air Force.  He met Putt, the love of his life when he was thirteen. They would date for seven years before marrying and were happily married for the past 68 years.  Tom was the CEO of State Volunteer Mutual Company for many years before his retirement.

A follower of Christ, Tom lived out his faith daily in the way that he treated and cared for others.  He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  And although a man of few words, when he spoke it was with both wit and wisdom.

To honor his life, Bishop Joe Pennel will conduct a service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 14 at Brentwood United Methodist Church where Tom has been a member since the early beginning of the church. There will be a time of visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Honorary pallbearers are The Robert I. Moore Sunday School Class, Sandy Moore, Bob McGowan, Carl Wood, Bill Johnson, Philip Porch, Bill Alford and Oren Williams.  Memorial contributions may be made to Brentwood United Methodist Church, Robert I. Moore Class, 309 Franklin Rd., Brentwood, TN 37027.
