OBITUARY: Sue Oden

Sue Oden

Sue Oden, age 87 of Franklin, TN, was called home by our Lord on August 23, 2019. She was born in Nashville, TN, to the late Roy Quinn and Picola Barton. Baptized in the waters of Mill Creek in Nashville, Sue has been a devoted Christ-follower, wonderful mother, and wife to her husband of 66 years, John Oden, Sr. She and her husband John have been members of Glendale Baptist Church in Nashville, First Baptist Church in Franklin, and most recently, Brentwood Baptist Church for the last 14 years.

Sue and John are deeply committed to the Room In The Inn Ministry, which provides overnight lodging, meals, and other services to Nashville’s homeless community. Sue loved the Room In The Inn Ministry and always made a practice to sit at the dinner table with the guests and tell them about Jesus. This November 2019 would have marked 20 years of her service to the Room In The Inn Ministry.

Sue and John moved their family from Nashville to the Williamson County community of Thompson’s Station in 1970 where they owned a family farm until moving to Franklin. Sue was very much involved in all aspects of the farm operation. She always took care of the family, took care of the animals, and prepared meals for the crews who looked after the production of soybeans, wheat, hay, and tobacco.

Sue is preceded in death by brothers Charles (Mildred) Fields and John (Catherine) Fields and by sisters Elizabeth (Harold) Fields-Dennis, Imogene (Raymond) Fields-Dye and Dorothy (Johnny) Fields-Norris. She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, John Oden, Sr., daughter Beth (Nelson) Owen, and son John (Ellen) Oden, Jr., and her cherished grandchildren, Travis Owen and Annaliese Owen.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 29, from 5:00 PM through 7:00 PM, and Friday, August 30, from 10:00 AM through 11:00 AM, both in The Parlor at Brentwood Baptist Church. Celebration of Life services will be held Friday, August 30, at 11:00 AM in the Baskin Chapel at Brentwood Baptist Church, Pastor Jim Harvey officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens on Thompson Lane in Nashville.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the “From Here to Eternity” Sunday School class at Brentwood Baptist Church.
