Leslie Barnett “L. B.” Chappell, Jr., 83, farmer and longtime resident of John Sharp Road, died Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

A graveside service will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 P.M. at Lasting Hope Cemetery with Mike Kesler officiating. Military honors will be provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 12:00 – 1:30 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born March 21, 1934 in Maury County, he was the son of the late L. B. Chappell, Sr. and the late Varelle Kincaid Chappell. Mr. Chappell served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his sisters, Winnie Love and Jean (Clyde) Kelley, both of Columbia; brothers, Houston (Nancy) Chappell of Gastonia, North Carolina and Terry (Betty) Chappell of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Austin Chappell.

Pallbearers will be Charles Rankin, Hal Holcomb, Ray Holcomb, William Burns, Jerry Sharp, Jason Kelley, Shannon Kelley, Steve Chappell, and Tracy Chappell.
