Holly Aline Strother Godwin, 65, of Nashville, born March 15, 1960 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on September 3, 2025 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Betty Gene Butler Strother and Howard Douglas Strother, Jr.
Holly’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was devoted to her children, Catherine Godwin Hebert (Andrew) and William James Godwin (Alexandra); and especially cherished being “Lolly” to her granddaughter, Margaret Grace Hebert. She will also be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Gene Strother Birch (Daniel) and Frances Strother Kirkpatrick (Wayne); former husband, William Gordon Godwin; nieces and nephews, extended family, friends, and beloved cats, Tiger and Milo.
Holly grew up with her sisters in Baton Rouge, graduating from Tara High School (1978) then earning a B.S. at Louisiana State University (1982), where she was a proud member of Kappa Delta Sorority. After college, she moved to Nashville, where she found her calling in computer technology, working as a software consultant and trainer before becoming a Legal Project Manager for Technology Innovation at Waller, Lansden, Dortch & Davis, LLP, retiring in 2022.
Holly lived authentically with an adventurous spirit and a loving heart. She was passionate about building connections, helping others, and volunteering in her community. She enjoyed playing tennis for Nashville Area Ladies Tennis Association, hiking, yoga, traveling, gardening, and her book club.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 18th at 2:00 p.m. at Church of the Redeemer, 920 Caldwell Ln, Nashville, TN 37204, with a Celebration of Life to follow.
