OBITUARY: Gerald Esmer

Gerald Esmer

Gerald peacefully passed away on August 14, 2025 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 82 years old.

Gerald was born on April 28, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois to Peter and Lottie Wojciechowski Esmer. As a child, his family moved to St Charles, Michigan. He was valedictorian of the St Charles Class of 1961 and played football for the Bulldogs. He earned a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University and Masters degrees from Stanford University and the University of Michigan. Gerald retired as president of Peerless Pinnacle Company.

Gerald married Lydia Mascio on May 11, 1996. They made their home in the Franklin and Hendersonville, Tennessee areas.

Surviving besides his wife Lydia are three sons: Randy Esmer, Whitmore Lake, MI; Rob Esmer, Ann Arbor. MI; and Dr. Greg Esmer and Rebecca Clarren, Portland, OR. He also leaves two grandsons, Jude and Louis Esmer. Gerald is survived by his sister Marilyn and Dave Sobieski and his sister-in-law Diane and Joe Gewirtz and other in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Gerald was predeceased by his parents, his parents-in-law, and his brother Joe Esmer.
Following Gerald’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Those who wish to make a memorial are asked to consider, for pancreatic cancer research, The Lustgarten Foundation, 504 RXR Plaza, Uniondale, NY 11556 or www.lustgarten.org.
