Noralie’s Brain Tumor Eviction Fund

On March 17th, 2015 Spring Hill resident Noralie Mowrey was diagnosed with an Acoustic Neuroma also called Vestibular Schwannoma.  An Acoustic Neuroma is a rare benign tumor that develops on the eighth cranial nerve.

The eighth cranial nerve connects the inner ear with the brain and has two different parts. One part is involved in transmitting sound; the other helps send balance information from the inner ear to the brain.acoustic-neuroma-.33190846_std

Noralie named her tumor Bubba as she does not like the word tumor! She will have surgery June 15, 2015 at the Vanderbilt Skull Base Surgery Center. Noralie will be having the retrosigmoid or suboccipital craniotomy approach to try to preserve hearing on her left side. Her facial nerves will be preserved.

After talking with the billing department, she was told that the costs could be as much as $100,000. Her out of pocket expenses may be as much $10,000.

Noralie is having a couple of fundraising events at two local venues including Tito’s on June 1st from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Embers (TBD) to help her raise money for her GoFundMe account at http://www.gofundme.com/u2a7q2au8. Fleming & Moore will also be performing on the balcony at Tito’s June 1st.

One raffle ticket will be handed out per family or table. The drawing will be held at the end of the night but you don’t have to be present to claim your prize.  Prizes so far include a free lawn care courtesy of Jeremy Johnson of Waterworks Landscape, jewelry pieces courtesy of Scott Tischler from SrBran Lux, V’s Raw Protein Bars courtesy of Vanessa Stanke Harmon, gift certificates and much more.

Noralie’s other goal is to bring public awareness to Acoustic Neuroma and start a fund for other single parents diagnosed with Acoustic Neuroma. She wants to help offset some of the financial burdens single parents have as they go through this life changing event.

“I want to give back as my loved ones, friends (near/far) and co-workers have helped me and my son and with the community’s help, I know this goal can and will be reached,” says Noralie.
