Nolensville Mayor Runs First Marathon

On Saturday, about 75 members of the Nolensville Running Club will participate in a marathon held in Carmel, Indiana. Of the 75 members going to the Carmel Marathon 12 will run a full 26.2 miles. The remaining will do a 13.1 half mile trek.

The marathon in Carmel has been going on for five years now and the NRC is a regular participant in the race. Some members, including the Mayor of Nolensville, Jimmy Alexander, will be running their first full 26.2 mile marathon, while others will be running their first 13.1 mile half marathon. MayorSmyrna5k-240x300

“It’s just a fun trip for us. The fact that our mayor, my dad, who is 74-years old is running his first full marathon is pretty neat,” said Scott Alexander, president of the Nolensville Running Club. “As a club we do a lot of things for the community, but running is really our passion.”

The goal of the club’s fastest runner is three hours and five minutes for the full marathon. Mayor Alexander’s goal is five and a half hours for the full marathon. For half marathon the goals range around an hour and a half to two hours.

After Carmel, Scott and his wife will head to the Boston Marathon to meet about five other members of the NRC for that race, which starts on Monday. Most runners in the club choose one or the other, but as president of the NRC, Scott opted to be at both for a full weekend of running and club activities.

“It’s gonna be a fun three days, very tiring, but well worth it,” Alexander said.
