The Nolensville Knights hosted the Elizabethton Cyclones tonight in the fourth round of the Tennessee high school football playoffs. The winner would earn their chance to play in the state championship game next week. The Knights managed to make it this far after winning a nail-biter over Tullahoma last week 15-14.
The Knights season came to a close tonight as they battled hard, but at the sound of the final buzzer they lost to Elizabethton 49-21.
Elizabethton made quick work with the football as they were the first team to get on the scoreboard. They led 7-0 early.
Nolensville was forced to punt the ball back to Elizabethton. The Cyclones had a balanced attack as they drove down the field and went up by two touchdowns over the Knights. It was all Cyclones in the first half as they got the ball back after forcing a punt and they drove the field to score again. Elizabethton led 21-0 halfway through the second quarter.
Nolensville got an important touchdown before the end of the first half as Ryder Galardi connected with Parker Price for a twenty-five yard touchdown pass to make it 21-7. However, they left a lot of time for Elizabethton to score as well.
Elizabethton would make them pay for leaving so much time on the clock as theyscored on a long touchdown pass to go up 28-7. That would be the score at half.
Out of halftime, Nolensville had the ball first and needed a score and stop to get back in the game. Their opening possession they completed the first task as they drove the field and scored a touchdown to chip away at the deficit making it 28-14. It was now time for their defense to get a stop.
Elizabethton’s offense just kept their dominating performance. The Cyclones drove down the field and scored another touchdown. They had not punted yet in the game as they scored every possession they had. They led 35-14.
Elizabethton got the ball back and marched down the field again. The third quarter would come to an end with them knocking on the door. The first play of the fourth quarter, the Cyclones scored to go up 42-14.
Elizabethton kept up their impressive performance and scored again on a short run to go up 49-14. This would place the running clock into play. Nolensville would score to make it 49-21, but it was too little too late for a comeback.
