Nine Chefs and Pitmasters Join the Second Whiskey Society Event

Franklin-based event company, MADE SOUTH, released the lineup of participating chefs for the Second Annual Southern Whiskey Society event, August 25, 2018, at The Factory in Franklin, Tennessee. The event will showcase nine talented chefs and pitmasters from seven different Southern states creating delicious tasting dishes for guests to enjoy alongside whiskey samples from more than 30 of the region’s leading distillers. This year’s event will benefit Operation BBQ Relief.

“When you get a bunch of great people in one place to share delicious food and whiskey together, I believe something magical happens,” said MADE SOUTH founder, Chris Thomas. “The South is rich with a tradition of culinary and distilling talent, and we want Southern Whiskey Society to be an event where good folks can come together to celebrate the food and whiskey of our region, all while supporting a great cause.”

Participating chefs for the 2018 Southern Whiskey Society are listed below:

  • Maneet Chauhan of Tànsuŏ in Nashville, Tenn.
  • Matt Combs of OBC Kitchen in Lexington, Ky.
  • Todd Ginsberg of The General Muir in Atlanta, Ga.
  • Andrew McCabe of bar Vetti in Louisville, Ky.
  • Rob McDaniel of SpringHouse in Alexander City, Ala.
  • Elliott Moss of Buxton Hall BBQ in Asheville, N.C.
  • Erik Niel of Easy Bistro in Chattanooga, Tenn.
  • Aaron Siegel of Home Team BBQ in Charleston, S.C.

Each chef will create a tasting dish featuring Southern ingredients for guests to enjoy. Guests will also have access to samples from leading distillers including Kentucky Owl, Wild Turkey, Four Roses, Leiper’s Fork Distillery, Buffalo Trace, High Wire Distilling, Angel’s Envy, John Emerald Distilling, Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery, and more. The Buffalo Trace tasting area will feature many of the distilleries popular brands of whiskey as well as the first ever Southern Whiskey Society Barrel Pick of Old Weller Antique 107 Proof Bourbon.

In addition to the main event on Saturday, Southern Whiskey Society is also offering an add-on dinner event on Friday evening, August 24, at 404 Kitchen in Nashville in partnership with Four Roses. Chef Matt Bolus of 404 Kitchen will join Master Distiller Brent Elliott of Four Roses and MADE SOUTH Founder Chris Thomas for a four-course dinner that will highlight neat pours and specialty cocktails featuring Four Roses Bourbon. This intimate dinner and whiskey experience is limited to just 60 seats.

The 2018 Southern Whiskey Society event will benefit Operation BBQ Relief, a disaster relief non-profit that provides hot BBQ meals to those affected by natural disasters and the first responders that come to help the community. Founded in May of 2011 after the devastating tornado in Joplin, Missouri, Operation BBQ Relief has served over 1.75 million hot BBQ meals in 24 states from 47 disasters.

Southern Whiskey Society will be presented by Mountain Valley Spring Water, Peter Nappi, Eli Mason Cocktail Mixers, Duke’s Mayonnaise, Visit Franklin, and Battleground South Cigar Lounge.
