Well it’s here, NFL Draft Day. The Titans earned the #2 pick overall with some of the worst performances since the Oilers left Houston. So the questions becomes what to do with it? We will look into our Williamson Source crystal ball and see what we can see:(note this was written evening of 4/29, we will update as needed, like the Jets piece)
- #2 Pick the Titans take: Marcus Mariota , QB, Oregon Ducks. He becomes the “franchise” QB .Upside: Great arm, good speed, leader. Downsides: Rumors of homesickness, maybe more of a project than is needed at #2
- #2 Pick the Titans take: DE Leonard Williams and shock the NFL. However, if the Bucs surprise everyone and pass Winston for Mariota, then this is probably a reality.
- Trade #2 to the NY Jets for #6, #37 or next year’s First Rounder: At #6 you take OLB Beasley, WR White, or OLB Bud Dupree. #37 could see Shane Ray LB, S Landon Collins, or QB Hundley or Petty. The gamble is does Mariota make the Jets any better than they were last year, so you position yourself to get a QB next year if Mettenberger doesn’t work out. UPDATE: Rumor has it Jets are out and looking to trade down.
- Trade #2 to the Eagles: If this happens, and I don’t believe it will, most likely we would get the #20 and Sam Bradford , and a first round next year.
- Trade #2 to the Browns: This is rumored to already being offered. Titans would get # 12 and #19 and probably something next year. You could go WR at #12 with White or Parker. Gurley at RB might also be an option.CB options would be strong here, with Trae Waynes leading cast if available. #19 could net you a WR or CB of significant value and add S Collins to that list.
- Trade #2 to the Chargers: for Philip Rivers, #19, and one of first 2 rounds next year. I like this the least. Rivers has one year on his contract. Chargers sound like they want picks instead of giving them up. Giving up more than the #2 for less than this would be stupid on the Titans part.No one needs a 33 year old QB that bad.
