It’s a new year, with a different cast. But for Brentwood Academy, it was the same result.

The Eagles knocked off Hillsboro in Brentwood by a 31-16 score on Friday night, winning their home opener.

It was a lot closer than BA’s 53-14 in the same game last year. Hillsboro trailed just 24-16 entering the fourth quarter. But BA didn’t turn the ball over, and won the turnover battle, 2-0.

Star linebacker Devyn Curtis had a monster night, racking up 14 tackles (10 solo) with 3.5 tackles for loss and a pair of sacks. Jack Victory had a fumble recovery for the Eagles.

Brentwood Academy’s Grant Stacy recovered a fumble at the Burro 40 in the first quarter. The Eagles turned this into a 40-yard field goal by Paxton Perry for the game’s first points.

Running back Tomario Pleasant ran 24 times for 189 yards and two touchdowns for the Eagles. Those scores came on runs of 5 and 40 yards just 1:51 apart in the second quarter.

BA added a 1-yard Thomas Gore touchdown after recovering a fumbled punt at the Hillsboro 1, but the Burros scored on a 65-yard run and added a 2-point conversion.

BA led 24-8 at half.

The Eagles (1-0) extended their winning streak to 18 games. They’ll try to extend it one more in their road opener at Father Ryan next week.
