Preds vs Sharks

After a 3-2 win Tuesday night against the San Jose Sharks, the Preds have moved out of last place in the central division. They now stand at 19-19-6 with 44 points.

The Preds were not home for the holidays–they played three straight road games, without a win to show for them. Despite losing all three on this road trip, the Preds played much more competitively than they had been—–two went into over time.

In fact, over the last six games, the team has earned six points, which while not lighting things up, it is also not as bad as it could be and had been through most of December.

So the homecoming on Tuesday was the first pro hockey game played in Nashville in 2014.

And the team got something it sorely lacked for most of 2013. Offense.

The team’s offensive leader produced. Shea Weber was good for two assists and David Legwand put in a goal and had an assist. It seems they have finally figured out how to score- which has been perhaps its biggest problem.  The Preds are now 17-0-3, when scoring three or more goals.

Despite being second to last in the central division, the Predators can turn things around. Because of the relative strength of its division, the Preds are more in the wildcard hunt than their standings in the division suggests.

And now with three consecutive games at home, the Predators just might be able to get over the hump and ring in the new year right. Or at least get comfortably above .500 for the first time in a while.

Coming up: Thursday at home vs Anaheim; Saturday at home vs Ottawa
